O2 Arena, Greenwich, London, United Kingdom - Anthony Joshua (1-0, 1 KO) made a perfect start to the paid ranks when he made light work of undefeated Italian Emanuele Leo (8-1, 3 KOs), knocking him out in the first round. Joshua looked much focused from the outset and began by peppering the Italian with hard fast accurate jabs for which Leo could not contend with.
The gold medal winning Brit stepped up his work when sensing his opponent could not handle his speed nor power and finished off his stranded victim slumping him to the ropes with a fine selective of shots for which a seasoned heavyweight would have been proud of. The official timing of the stoppage was 2:48.
Big Josh, in his first outing since winning gold in the London Olympics showed no pre fight nerves and looked to have kept himself in shape since his long layoff which is a testament to his dedication and his willingness to go far as a professional.
If Joshua is to remain and keep that focus it is very hard not to imagine the young heavyweight being fast tracked and one wonders how he is meant to gain the crucial rounds that will help him further more when he reaches a higher competitive level. Either way the British fighter handled the occasion and dealt with an undefeated fighter in his professional debut.
Joshua was first class and it is going to take a hell of a fighter to stop Joshua. Questions will still remain and I'm sure some doubts and doubters will arise but "Big Josh" looks certain to be destined to go to the very top of the sport.
Anthony Joshua will be featured on the undercard of the Kell Brooks bout with Vyacheslav Senchenko at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom on the 26th of October. For ticket information please call...01142 565656
