Coliseo Rubén Rodríguez, Bayamón — The Caguas native return to the ring proved to be a successful one. Juan Manuel ‘JuanMa’ Lopez (32-2, 29 KOs) halted Aldimar Silva Santos (18-4, 9 KOs) in round nine in a catchweight bout at 128 pounds. JuanMa took a cautious approach in the first couple of rounds. Lopez began to settle in rounds three and four by banging on the body of Santos. A straight left by JuanMa put Silva on the canvas in round five.
The punishment by JuanMa started to show on Silvas face in the sixth round. Silva visited the canvas once again in the seventh when Lopez connected on another straight left. In rounds eight and nine JuanMa continued his onslaught and the fight was stopped after another knockdown in the ninth. It was JuanMa’s first fight in nearly a year. He was suspended in March of last year because of comments he made towards the referee in his rematch fight against Orlando Salido.
